James McMurtry and The Martial Law Review with BettySoo
Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 8:00 PM Ages: 21+ *GA standing in the front, dinner tables behind in the stage room.* James McMurtry & The Martial Law Review James McMurtry released The Black Dog and the Wandering Boy on June 20th via New West Records. The 10-song collection was co-produced by McMurtry & Don Dixon (R.E.M., The Smithereens) and is his first album in four years. It follows his 2021 acclaimed new West debut, The Horses and the Hounds, which UnCut Magazine said “lifts storytelling-in-song to meticulous new levels" and Pitchfork awarded an 8.0, saying “James McMurtry stands out even among the Lone Star State’s finest songwriters…” The Black Dog and the Wandering Boy features appearances by Sarah Jarosz, Charlie Sexton, Bonnie Whitmore, Bukka Allen and more, alongside his trusted backing band, THE MARTIAL LAW REVIEW, Tim Holt on guitar and accordion, Cornbread on bass and Daren Hess on drums. As varied as they are, McMurtry’s new story-songs find inspiration in scraps from his family’s past: a rough pencil sketch by Ken Kesey that serves as the album cover, the hallucinations experienced by his father, the legendary writer Larry McMurtry, an old poem by a family friend. A supremely insightful and inventive storyteller, McMurtry teases vivid worlds out of small details, setting them to arrangements that have elements of Americana but sound too sly and smart for such a general category. Funny and sad often in the same breath, The Black Dog and the Wandering Boy adds a new chapter to a long career that has young songwriters like Sarah Jarosz and Jason Isbell cite him as a formative influence. [https://www.jamesmcmurtry.com/](https://www.jamesmcmurtry.com/) Special Guest BettySoo "BettySoo’s vocal prowess is a thing of wonder. A world-class instrument of deft phrasing and purity, a voice that knows when to hold back and when to dive in. At her own live shows, taking a verse onstage with friends or singing harmonies in sessions with Austin’s finest, BettySoo sings with consummate loveliness and self-assurance. A voice that knows the roots of American music inside and out; coming from a most unexpected place – a diminutive Korean-American with a deceptively girl-next-door demeanor." Monophonics with The Bombillas
Doors: 8:00 PM Show: 9:00 PM Ages: 21+ *GA Standing in the stage room. Dinners in the back bar room.* Monophonics The world’s premier psychedelic soul band, Monophonics, cordially invites you to attend the grand re-opening of the once thriving, once vibrant establishment, the legendary Sage Motel. A place where folks experience the highs and lows of human existence. A place where big dreams and broken hearts live, where people arrive without ever knowing how they got there. It’s where individuals find themselves at a crossroads in life. What started as a quaint motor lodge and a common pitstop for travelers and truckers in the 1940s morphed into a bohemian’s hang by the 1960s and 1970s. Artists, musicians, and vagabonds of all types would stop there as seedy ownership pumped obnoxious amounts of money into high end renovations, eventually attracting some of the most prominent acts of the era. But when the money ran out, The Sage Motel devolved into a place where you rent by the hour. Sage Motel, Monophonics’ fifth studio album since 2012, tells its story. Once again produced by brilliant bandleader Kelly Finnigan, the album captures a timeless sound that blends heavy soul with psych-rock. With their previous album, It’s Only Us, selling over 10,000 physical units and garnering over 20 million streams, Monophonics have built a reputation over the past decade as one of the most impactful bands in the country. If these walls of the Sage Motel could talk, this is what they’d say. So join us as we examine where the stories are told and experiences unfold…..and sink into a soft pillow of soulful psychedelia…..down at the Sage Motel. Warpaint, the leading single from Sage Motel, reveals the vices of each resident and confronts the struggles of substance abuse and addiction. Their warpaint becomes compulsory to face the day, tolerate the struggle, get through the hardest parts of the world, humanity, life and to fight the good fight. Cloaked in heavy riffs and robust vocals, Warpaint gives you the first look through the doors of the Sage Motel. https://www.monophonics.com/ The Bombillas Inspired by the global funk sounds that came out of Africa and the Middle East in the 1970’s, The Bombillas infuse the sound with west coast grooves and desert psych, creating exotic, hypnotic, and dynamic moods. This Los Angeles group features David Celia on keys, Josh Wiener on bass, Joey Campanella on drums, and Fernando Navarro on 6 and 12‑string guitars. https://www.fspotrecords.com/collections/the-bombillas

(((folkYEAH!))) Presents: Angelo de Augustine with Elanor Moss
Doors: 6:30 PM Show: 8:00 PM Ages: All Ages *Rows of chairs in stage room, dinners tickets available for prior to show. * Angelo De Augustine Angelo De Augustine returns with Angel in Plainclothes, his fifth album and most inspired work yet—a deeply felt rendering of his multi-year journey of healing and renewal. The record showcases De Augustine's powerful melodies and poignant lyrics across tracks like the haunting elegy "Empty Shell," the hopeful "Spirit of the Unknown," and standout psychedelic country piece "Mirror Mirror." Themes explore life's fragility, second chances, and picking up the pieces after an undiagnosed illness forced him to re-learn basic abilities: "I'm trying to figure out who I am now," De Augustine says. "I feel like I may have been given a second chance at life, and I'd like to live it." Written, recorded, arranged, produced, and mixed by the artist at his recording studio A Secret Place in Southern California, the album marks his first time welcoming collaborators in years, including string arranger Oliver Hill (Kevin Morby, Helado Negro), harpist Leng Bian, background vocalist/percussionist Wendy Fraser, as well as Thomas Bartlett (who produced De Augustine’s Tomb, St. Vincent, Bebel Gilberto) and Jonathan Wilson (Angel Olsen, Father John Misty), who played drums on and co-produced "The Cure." The result is a powerful statement of hope: "One of the most helpful things that kept me going was the people in my life telling me that everything was ultimately going to be okay. I hope these songs end up having the same kind of effect on people out in the world, and help them know that miracles are possible.” Elanor Moss London-based songwriter Elanor Moss announces her signing to Merge Records and releases the new single, “Again, My Love.” The release follows 2025 tours with Foxwarren, Flyte, and Ye Vagabonds, and was met with support across the UK, with BBC6 Music naming her “One To Watch 2026” Elanor Moss grew up in a very creative, devoutly Catholic family, and began playing music at church events. Homeschooled through early youth, her parents put a real emphasis on nature and reading and music. Eventually leaving the faith, Moss started writing songs of her own in York as a student of English literature and playing open mics around the city. While at University she also discovered songwriting greats: Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, The Beatles. Shortly after graduation, Moss met producer Oli Deakin, who offered to record her first EP, “Citrus.” Her work with Deakin took her to New York City, where she began forging a sense of community. Between “Citrus” and her second EP, “Cosmic,” Moss toured with Christian Lee Hutson, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and LYR, played one-off shows with Cassandra Jenkins, CMAT, and Sam Amidon, and performed at Pitchfork London, Green Man Festival, and Mosely Folk, among others.

Davy Knowles & His Band
Doors: 6:30 PM Show: 7:30 PM Ages: All Ages *Dinner tables in the stage room. * Whether playing acoustic, mandolin, national steel, or screaming electric guitar, Davy Knowles has an unmistakable style. Since bursting on to the scene with his band Back Door Slam’s critically acclaimed album ‘Roll Away’ in 2007 (“I heard the spirit of Jimi Hendrix” Patrick McDonald - Seattle Times), Davy’s star has only risen. His sophomore release ‘Coming Up For Air’ was produced by the legendary Peter Frampton (“Davy already has a recognizable style. He’s definitely the gunslinger guitarist of the 21st century,’’- Peter Frampton), with subsequent tours seeing him supporting and sharing the stage with acts such as Jeff Beck, The Who, Joe Bonamassa, Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, George Thorogood, Brian Setzer, the Sammy Hagar-fronted supergroup Chickenfoot, and guitar hero Joe Satriani who called Davy “My favorite modern Bluesman”. Knowles has several top-5 Billboard Blues charting albums under his belt, high profile TV appearances (Jimmy Kimmel Live and CBS Good Morning America among others), and has been praised with high accolades from heroes and press alike - but it’s not just the music industry who has taken note. Knowles was also the very first artist in history to perform live to the International Space Station directly from mission control in Houston TX, and has had his music taken to the Space Station by two astronauts, Nicole Stott and Ron Garan, on their missions orbiting Earth. Never one to be satisfied or to sit still, Knowles has explored multiple genres and styles, from the hard-hitting 70’s classic rock influenced album ‘Three Miles From Avalon’, to the haunting acoustic delta blues of ‘1932’, and the sweet, soul-searching folk of 2023’s ‘If I Should Wander’. 2024 saw a return to the 70’s inspired guitar driven work, in the critically acclaimed album ‘The Invisible Man’, which was quickly followed up the next year with ‘MKO’ - a new project featuring Rory Gallagher band Alumni and blues-rock royalty Gerry McAvoy and Brendan O’Neill. In November of 2025 Davy was awarded the title of ‘Global Ambassador’ by his native country, The Isle of Man, in recognition of his success as a Manx-born musician on the global stage. Whether spending an evening onstage armed with just an acoustic guitar, or wielding his well worn and trusty Telecaster while fronting his blues/rock trio - and at any point in between the two - Davy Knowles is a versatile and formidable songwriter and musician.

(((folkYEAH!))) Presents: Earthless with Primitive Ring
Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 8:00 PM Ages: 21+ *GA standing in the stage room. * Inspired by the ancient Japanese legend of the Hyakki Yagyō, or “Night Parade of One Hundred Demons,” Earthless’ latest album draws on tales of supernatural creatures roaming the night while terrified villagers hide indoors, listening to the chaos outside. The story’s atmosphere of mystery and fear became the perfect backdrop for the band's return to their signature style of expansive instrumental psychedelia. Following 2018’s Black Heaven, which featured shorter songs and vocals, Night Parade of One Hundred Demons marks a return to Earthless’ roots. The album consists of two sprawling compositions: the 41-minute title track and the 20-minute “Death to the Red Sun.” After guitarist Isaiah Mitchell’s return to San Diego in 2020, the trio was able to reconnect with their original songwriting process—developing long-form jams through regular collaboration and improvisation. The result is one of Earthless’ darkest and most ambitious records, filled with tension, noise, and heavy psychedelic exploration. Recorded in San Diego with producer Ben Moore, the album also features striking artwork created by bassist Mike Eginton, inspired by his research into traditional Japanese yōkai. For the band, the record represents both a creative evolution and a return to the spirit that first defined Earthless—so much so that it even includes the very first riff they wrote together, finally recorded two decades later.

(((folkYEAH!))) Presents: La Luz with Marinero
Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 8:00 PM Ages: 18+ *GA standing in the stage room, dinners in the back bar room. * La Luz Inspired by a line adapted from author Octavia E. Butler, News of the Universe sees La Luz channeling transformation, mortality, and unconditional love into their most emotionally expansive record yet. Written in the wake of songwriter Shana Cleveland’s breast cancer diagnosis shortly after becoming a mother, the album blends dark, beautiful psychedelia with themes of survival and renewal. It also captures a moment of transition for the band, featuring drummer Audrey Johnson’s debut alongside final contributions from longtime members Lena Simon and Alice Sandahl, adding a bittersweet undercurrent to the record’s cosmic scope. Since forming in 2012, La Luz has built a devoted following for their mix of surf rock riffs, dreamy harmonies, and hypnotic psychedelic textures, and News of the Universe pushes that sound into deeper, more vulnerable territory. Songs move between urgency and bliss, pairing apocalyptic imagery with moments of warmth, wonder, and joy. Inspired by Cleveland’s reflections on nature, decay, and the cycles of life around her rural California home, the record ultimately becomes a meditation on accepting change rather than resisting it. Produced by Maryam Qudos, the album’s all-female creative team helped foster an atmosphere where experimentation and emotional honesty could fully thrive. The result is a record that feels both intimate and otherworldly - unapologetically feminine, sonically adventurous, and rooted in La Luz’s enduring belief in the transformative power of love, connection, and a great guitar riff. Marinero Los Angeles band Marinero, led by creative force Jess Sylvester, released their latest album, La La La, on CD/LP/DSPs worldwide through Hardly Art Records in 2025. The 12-track album features the standout tracks “Dream Suite,” “Sea Changes,” and “Cruz.” Playfully named both for the city that helped shape it and the sophisticated pop it contains, La La La is multivalent and endlessly lush. The album was recorded at Savannah Studios in Los Angeles and co-produced by Jess Sylvester and Jason Kick, featuring contributions from Chicano Batman’s Eduardo Arenas and labelmates Chris Cohen and Shana Cleveland (La Luz). Weaved throughout these 12 songs are motivational anthems about self-acceptance and playful numbers about flirting through food, shaping a set rich with humor, empathy, and encouragement. Sylvester, born to parents of Mexican and Irish-American descent who settled in San Francisco, has sometimes encountered preconceived notions of his sound and style that aren’t correct. On La La La, he simultaneously steps into and out of those preconceptions, singing tracks above salsa in joyous Spanish or pondering the dynamics of the Hollywood Ten and blacklists above mysterious lap steel and teasing trumpet. His identity should now be clear: He is a Californian, making music shaped by the diversity of encounters and experiences that are a central part of that state’s fabric. Never before has he presented himself so fully and unabashedly on tape as with La La La, an album Sylvester built with new inspirations to deliver new charms.

Mason Jennings
Doors: 6:00 PM Show: 7:00 PM Ages: 21+ *GA standing in the stage room, dinner tables in the back bar room. * "I love song craft," says Mason Jennings, a longtime folksinger who has spent over two decades honing his craft both on stage and in the studio. "A song is like a boat on the water, and you're trying to make it float with as few pieces as possible. If you do it right, a song can be very healing." For Jennings, songwriting has always been about creating a personal connection, both with his audience and with himself. Over the years, he’s become known for his unpretentious, emotive approach to folk music, combining introspective lyrics with acoustic melodies. He’s drawn comparisons to the greats of the genre, including Nick Drake, John Fahey, and Tom Waits, but Jennings' sound is distinctly his own, one that blends vulnerability with strength, simplicity with complexity. Born in Honolulu and raised in Pittsburgh, Jennings’ musical journey began with a move to Minneapolis in the late 1990s, where he released his debut album and quickly gained attention for his raw, authentic sound. His contemporary take on classic folk resonated with listeners and fellow musicians alike, earning him fans like Jack Johnson and Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse. Over the years, his steady output of albums has solidified his reputation as one of the leading voices in the folk and Americana scenes. Though his early work focused on solo acoustic arrangements, Jennings has also embraced more adventurous, genre-crossing projects. His collaboration with the synth-based supergroup Painted Shield marked a departure from his usual style, incorporating electronic elements and a more expansive sound. “Being in that band really freed me up as a solo artist,” he reflects. “It allowed me to experiment and return to the acoustic, stripped-back music that first inspired me.” At his core, Jennings is an artist constantly evolving, and his music reflects a deep personal journey. Themes of healing, growth, and self-acceptance have been central to his songwriting, especially in recent years. Following a challenging period of personal upheaval, Jennings explored themes of trauma, recovery, and reconciling his past in his 2018 album Songs From When We Met. His music became a way to process his experiences and find peace within himself, a journey that continues today. For Jennings, songwriting is about much more than just creating music. It is a path toward emotional clarity and personal transformation. "I've learned that it's OK to be my real self," he shares. "These songs reflect the struggle to take care of myself and be the person I truly am. It’s about accepting where I come from, and working to heal old wounds, so I can move forward in a healthier way." As he continues to write and record, Jennings remains deeply connected to his roots in folk music while embracing new textures and ideas. His work, whether with a band or solo, reflects an ongoing exploration of sound, emotion, and the human experience. For him, the process of creating is just as important as the final result, an ever-evolving conversation between the artist and his audience, and between the artist and himself.

Doors: 8 PM Show: 9 PM 21+ *Standing in stage room* *Dinners available before show in back bar room* Vieux Farka Touré, often called “The Hendrix of the Sahara,” was born in Niafunké, Mali, in 1981 as the son of legendary guitarist Ali Farka Touré. Although his father initially discouraged him from pursuing music because of the hardships musicians faced, Vieux eventually earned his blessing with the help of family friend and kora master Toumani Diabaté. Originally trained as a drummer at Mali’s Institut National des Arts, Vieux secretly began playing guitar in 2001 and later recorded tracks with his father shortly before Ali’s death in 2006. These recordings appeared on Vieux’s self-titled 2007 debut album, which honored his father’s musical legacy while introducing his own talent. Over the years, Vieux developed a distinctive sound that blended traditional Malian desert blues with rock, Latin, and other African influences, earning worldwide acclaim through albums such as Fondo, The Secret, and Mon Pays. Known for his electrifying live performances, extraordinary guitar skills, and charismatic stage presence, he has established himself as one of the leading musicians of his generation. Throughout his career, Vieux has collaborated with artists from around the world, including Idan Raichel, Dave Matthews, Derek Trucks, John Scofield, and the band Khruangbin. His collaborative projects, including The Tel Aviv Session, The Paris Session, and Ali, received international praise for bridging cultures through music. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Vieux recorded Les Racines, a return to the deep roots of desert blues that further cemented his reputation as an innovative artist. Beyond music, he is also deeply committed to humanitarian work in Mali. In 2012, he founded the charity Amahrec Sahel, which supports education, orphanages, and young musicians, and he serves as director of The Ali Farka Touré Foundation, dedicated to preserving his father’s legacy and promoting Malian culture.

(((folkYEAH!))) Presents: Dean Johnson
Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 8:00 PM Ages: 21+ *GA standing in the stage room. * With I Hope We Can Still Be Friends, his debut for Saddle Creek, Dean Johnson makes a pact with the listener: He will sing you his truth in the most heartfelt and charming way possible, if you promise to keep an open mind. The title partly stems from the playful way the Seattle-based singer, songwriter and guitarist communes with his audiences at concerts. “I hope you’re not afraid to talk to me after the show,” he’ll say, sweetly, before launching into “Death of the Party,” the album’s seventh song. Centered on the “energy vampire” archetype — the exasperating windbag we’ve all encountered at some point — its lyrics are at once intellectually biting and unmistakably hilarious. His tender voice rings out like the ghost of Roy Orbison or a misfit Everly brother. “Words don’t come easily to me / I notice you don’t have that problem / It sounds to me you cannot stop them,” Johnson sings over acoustic guitar strumming, and gentle bass and drums, like the narrator in a dark comedy whose coming-of-age misadventures have made for an excellent film. Johnson spent years tending bar at Al’s Tavern in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood. There, he encountered folks of all stripes; and regulars enthusiastically murmured about his budding musical greatness — There’s the best songwriter in town! Johnson was a kind of local lore, a long-held family secret, before the singer finally broke out in 2023 with his debut album, Nothing For Me Please, at age 50. “‘Death of the Party’ is a great example of that,” he says of the sociological experience of bartending. “Being in that environment, lyrics did solidify. If I was working on a song, it wasn’t unusual for some new aspect of it, or a line that was too vague, to suddenly come into focus.” I Hope We Can Still Be Friends is essentially an anthology that bridges Johnson’s earliest days as a songwriter with his present-day outlook and abilities. There are songs that have been in his setlists for years, and others that will be new to fans. Each of its 11 tracks contains jocular social commentary or lovingly rendered affairs of the heart. The album’s songs about love and relationships offer another way to interpret its title: as a parting thought to an ex. Like all of Johnson’s cable-knit writing, the title is a clever banner for the album’s dual nature, the thing that binds its tragedy and comedy masks. Johnson explains that he didn’t set out to make a concept album. It’s a coincidence that about half of the album’s songs are a bit sardonic, and the other half are more lighthearted. The singer playfully refers to the former as his “mean” songs, which is why the album’s back cover is adorned with a warning that says “Beware of Dean.” Like John Prine or Kris Kristofferson’s country-adjacent sound, devastating humor and economical profundity refracted through a barroom’s haze, the album is filled with easygoing twang, sad characters, universal truths and the absurdity of everyday life. “Carol” recounts the numb consumption and dissipating cultural attention that is besieging America. There’s a search for optimism amid meditations on dying in a plane crash in “Before You Hit the Ground.” Romance that is best forgotten steers “So Much Better” — only Johnson could weave electroconvulsive therapy into a gentle, chuckle-inducing missive on unbearable heartbreak. I Hope We Can Still Be Friends floats in a liminal plane between timely and timeless, its minimalist instrumentation elevating Johnson’s affecting voice to new heights. Recorded at Unknown Studio in Anacortes, Washington, the record was produced by Sera Cahoone — the Seattle-based singer-songwriter Johnson describes as a “soulmate sibling.” Overdubbing took place at Seattle’s Crackle & Pop! For the sessions, Johnson assembled a small band of friends including Abbey Blackwell (bass, backing vocals), multi-instrumentalist Sam Peterson and Cahoone (drums, backing vocals), who created a familial tone on the already intimate album. I Hope We Can Still Be Friends, with its sharp observations and stirring personal insights, holds space for both intense reflection and emotional release. You may laugh, or cry or both. In this sense, the album is powerful medicine — a way to both expose yourself to and inoculate yourself against the ugly, absurd, existential and heartbreaking. At its core rests a basic truth that is often difficult to remember or accept: Happiness wouldn’t exist without sadness as its counterpart. On his uncanny ability to so clearly see and then encapsulate humanity in all its messy glory, Johnson offers this core memory, drawn from his childhood on Camano Island in the Puget Sound. “I was raised on a bluff,” he says. “I’m not trying to make it sound dramatic, but I did have a sweeping view.”

SB Acoustic Presents: Sonny Leyland Trio
Doors: 6:00 PM Show: 7:30 PM Ages: All Ages *Dinner tables in the stage room. * Born & raised on the South Coast of England, Carl Sonny Leyland was drawn to the American music which he heard on LP records his father would play. It was here that he developed an appreciation for Traditional Jazz and Swing, the Rock & Roll of the 1950s & the Country Music of Jimmie Rodgers & Hank Williams. He discovered boogie woogie when he heard a school friend working through a written arrangement JD's Boogie Woogie (by Marvin Wright). Captivated by the sound of the repeating 8 to the bar left hand pattern, Sonny was inspired to fully explore the piano blues genre, becoming an authority on early & obscure styles. Sonny’s initial visit to New Orleans in 1988 inspired him to relocate to that city where he would spend the next nine years. By the time Sonny relocated to Southern California in 1997, his repertoire had expanded to include ragtime & early jazz styles, which enabled him to become part of the traditional jazz scene around Los Angeles. The Carl Sonny Leyland Trio with drummer Hal Smith/ Josh Collazo & bassist Marty Eggers have recorded seven cds (including a collaboration with Nathan James & Ben Hernandez). HeeHe appears on occasion with such notables as Jontavious Willis, Kim Wilson, & Rod Piazza. He has recorded with Blues greats Billy Boy Arnold, Jerry McCain, Beverley Watlins, James Harman, and Anson Funderburg & Sam Myers. Sonny’s playing displays an infectious spontaneity, providing plenty of surprises for the listener. While he possesses the necessary vocabulary to pay tribute to the greats of old, he refuses to be limit himself to this & prefers to let each performance be an opportunity to say something new. His repertoire spans the Ragtime era through the 1950s, & includes a large amount of self written songs and instrumental compositions.

From the start, they were the definition of a workingman’s country band, cutting their teeth with five-hour sets on Austin’s dancehall circuit before spreading their music to the rest of America. By the early 2020s, they’d become global ambassadors of homegrown Texas music, flying their flag everywhere from Abbey Road Studios (where they recorded 2019’s Cheap Silver and Solid Country Gold with help from the London Symphony Orchestra) to the Grand Ole Opry. Their music balances the strengths they’ve accumulated along the way - sharp, detailed songwriting that bounces between autobiographical sketches and character studies; gorgeous swells of pedal steel and piano that drift through the songs like weather; a rhythm section capable of country shuffles, hard-charging rock & roll tempos, and everything in between -with a willingness to break old rules and open new doors. There’s a smart sense of history here - a celebration not only of where the band is headed, where they’ve been too. Even so, Silverada doesn’t spend much time looking in the rearview mirror. Instead, it keeps its gaze focused on the road ahead. This is a snapshot of a band in motion, chasing down the next horizon, writing the soundtrack to some new discovery. It’s the sound of alchemy, of some new metal being forged. And like silver itself, Silverada shines brightly.
